Saturday morning the tour was over, but my Paris adventure was not. I wanted to get the feel of another neighborhood so I moved to Hotel du Lion Dor Louvre in the 1st arrondisement. It was a piece of cake using the metro with my Osprey Porter backpack and cross body café bag. But first, I wanted to take advantage of the last day left on my Paris Museum Card. I visited Musee du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac. The museum displays indigenous arts from the Americas, Oceania, Africa and Asia.

I stopped at a nearby café for lunch and then headed to my new hotel. In the afternoon, I walked through many of the covered shopping avenues on the right bank. I had a leisurely amble while window shopping. I also found A la Mere de Famille and was transported to the Belle Epoque.

I purchased some sweet souvenirs for friends and famille. By this time it was dark. I dined in Passage des Panoramas at New Kashmir. I try to have an Indian meal on every trip. This was an ideal day in Paris!

On Sunday I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and then took the metro to the 11th arr. I walked through the neighborhood and made it to my destination by 10:30. This was one of my favorite activities of the trip. I saw Cezanne presented at L'atelier des Lumiere. At first I was worried about going a weekend, fearful about crowds. But, it turned out to be a feature as there were a lot of families with young children. The children were chasing Cezanne's painted fruit and flowers all over the floor and squealing in delight with angelic voices. The lumiere is a film presentation set to music in a warehouse type environment. The art is displayed on the walls, ceiling and floor. It was spectacular. I hope to attend more of these in the future. After the show I walked some more and enjoyed lunch at a creperie.

I had some time to spare so I enjoyed a cola at a sidewalk cafe and read my book. In the afternoon I took a guided tour of Pere Lachaise Cemetery with Paris walks. I signed up the evening before via email. Of note, one of  the walk participants said that his iphone was picked from a front zipped pocket on the metro. The tour was fabulous. After the tour I took the bus back to central Paris. For my worst meal of the trip I bought a sandwich and a tarte from an Eric Keyser shop and ate it on a bench in the Tuileries Garden. I turned in early.

I enjoyed my tour with Paris Walks so I signed up for the French Revolution walk. To my surprise, Cerise from the Montmartre walk was our guide. We started at the Statue of Danton, walked to the Odeon theatre, to Jardin du Luxembourg, to Eglise Saint-Sulpice and we ended at Le Precope.

I had lunch where only French was spoken and managed just fine. The afternoon was for wandering. I spent some time under the willow tree at the point of    Il de La Cite. Then it was time to find my son a soccer jersey so I ended up at Nike on Champs-Elysees. I decided to stop at Laduree. Then to bed.

What Did I Eat?

Scavenger Hunt

I was happy to spend Saturday all on my own. On Sunday and Monday I gained company by joining others on the Paris Walks tours. This is a good strategy for solo travelers.

When the traveler goes alone he gets acquainted with himself.
