On To Kusadasi

The next day found us in Hierapolis, an ancient Greek city located on hot springs. It was like Disney Land for an archaeology  buff. There is a theatre, a bath house, a pool, a museum, and a necropolis. And all of this was next to the Pamukkale thermal pools, a landscape that looks like a snowy hillside despite the 90 degree temperature. I did not adequately prepare for this sight by researching it ahead of time. It was still a fantastic visit and I have since read about its significance, but it reinforces, for me, the importance of pre-trip preparation.

My photos of Pamukkale were not good.

Here is another beautiful photo by our tour mate Bob Turner.

 ........ Thanks Bob!

EPHESUS

The last full day of the tour was all about Ephesus. Both Hagia Sophia and Ephesus used to be places to dream about and were out of reach. Now, in one 2 1/2 week trip, they became places that belong to me. Our tour mate Phil was literally dancing with excitement as we entered the gate.

Kusadasi is a resort town on the Aegean coast. Our hotel had superb views of the sea and the neighboring hillside. Here are some photos of our view and the farewell dinner.
