On To Pamukkale
Today, Taylan changed up the order of our itinerary, to save us from the unseasonably hot weather. We visited Aphrodisias in the heat of the afternoon and saved Hierapolis for the relative cool of the next morning. Aphrodisias is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of an ancient Greek city. Pictured below are ruins of the temple, the odeon (council house), pool, and gateway (c. 200 AD). Once again, it was great to have an archaeology expert with us.
We attended a religious performance of the Whirling Dervishes, followers of Mevlana Rumi. After the ceremony, they whirled again for us so that we could take pictures. The young men also made themselves available to meet with us.
